XYPEX has been independently tested for waterproofing plaster and stucco finishes. Please click here for more info and independent test results Construction Specifier – May 2003 Stucco Article.   Email us for a higher res version of the report.

If you could waterproof your clients walls for less than $.06 per sq/ft wouldn’t you? High winds combined with salt water does not make for a good environment when it comes to protecting a home from water damage.  Bermuda homes are built from either traditional limestone or concrete block then they are plastered with a sand / cement mixture (plaster/stucco) to protect and enhance the overall structure.  This plaster finish however is bombarded with constant attack from hurricanes, salt spray and torrential rains which penetrate the pores of an untreated surface and begin to degrade the overall integrity of the plaster which in turn causes issues inside and outside of a home!  XYPEX when added to plaster will close these pores off and restrict the penetration of these attacks permanently!  For more information on this or other areas that XYPEX can be used on your next project call Cory on 238-3639.

How do you mix XYPEX into plaster?

The ratio required for plaster work is traditionally 2% by weight of cement.  This equates to 2lbs of XYPEX Admix C-1000 for every 100lbs of cement. When mixing XYPEX Admixture into your plaster add 2/3 of the water, then 1/2 the sand, then the Admix (slowly in powder form), mix thoroughly then add the cement, and then the remaining water and sand.  To enhance bond, particularly for Bermuda Stone bases, and to improve water permeability it is recommended to use 3 parts water and 1 part Xypex Xycrylic as the mixing liquid.

Application:
Ensure the surface is clean and free of debris, loose materials and other foreign matter.  Moisten the surface as required to obtain good adhesion and uniform absorption and then apply the plaster/stucco.  A light cure misting should be applied 3 times daily for 48 hours after application. Allow the surface to cure for a minimum of 10 days before applying any coatings (or as otherwise recommended by the coating manufacturer.  In general all stucco materials and workmanship should be completed in accordance with local requirements as well as industry standards such as ASTM C926 and ACI 524.

Useful Information:
XYPEX Mega Mix 1 & 2 is used for the waterproofing and resurfacing of masonry or concrete surfaces. They contain a unique blend of Portland cement, treated silica sand, fibers and proprietary chemicals.
